Red Velvet Deception

Red Velvet Deception is a Dutch darkwave duo formed by Roy Orbon and Arjen Zomers, driven by a shared passion for the darker side of alternative music. Their sound is deeply influenced by iconic bands such as The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, and other alternative and post-punk acts from the 1980s.

Roy and Arjen already knew each other from their previous band, Crashinasecond. Over the years, they discovered that their musical tastes and ideas overlapped more and more. Eventually, they began to imagine something different: a band stripped down to its essentials, built around atmosphere, rhythm, powerful bass and sharp, penetrating guitar lines.

The idea was simple but distinctive. There would be no traditional drummer. Instead, a drum machine would provide the foundation, creating a mechanical and hypnotic pulse. Over that foundation came deep, heavy bass sounds and cutting guitar tones, creating a dark and atmospheric sound that would become the trademark of Red Velvet Deception.

And so, Red Velvet Deception was born.

Their music combines the coldness and tension of post-punk with the atmosphere of darkwave, while still leaving room for strong melodies and emotional depth. The result is a sound that looks back to the alternative underground of the 1980s, while remaining unmistakably their own.

In 2019, Red Velvet Deception released their first CD, featuring the single “So Low.” The release received a warm response within the underground scene and helped establish the duo within the darkwave and alternative community. The track was also selected for its first vinyl release on the Spanish compilation album A Matter Of Concepts, released by Dead Wax Records.

The story of Red Velvet Deception is one of two musicians following a shared musical instinct: dark, atmospheric, melodic and uncompromising.

And this is only the beginning.
